If you’ve ever tried doing a web search for free dog tags, you know how painful it can be. The websites claim to offer free dog tags, but in fact, you have to buy something first. This can be fine in many cases, especially when you need to stock up on pet supplies such as collars, leashes and chains, and other dog supplies. It doesn’t cost much to make a nameplate, so manufacturers will offer them for free in many cases. Imagine your dog’s name on a tag, arriving in the mail, and you will appreciate this personal touch. Alternatively, some websites will not offer free dog tags, but will offer free shipping.

But if you want a free nameplate on its own, you’ll have to try other avenues. The national pet supply chain PetsMart had a deal where you could get free dog tags just by signing up for their mailing list, but that deal no longer exists.
