What Is The Actual Range of An E-bike?

The actual range of an e-bike depends on a number of factors, which include: battery type, battery voltage and capacity, bicycle model, rider’s weight, support level, landform, driving style, wind and air temperature.

The question about the range of an electric bike is one of the most frequently asked questions by our customers. Although we know the capabilities of each JOBOBIKE e-bike, the answer to this question is never easy. That’s because the actual range of an e-bike depends on a number of factors, which include:

Battery Type

Lithium-ion batteries are the best batteries used in e-bikes. They are characterized by the highest durability, the highest efficiency and the lowest weight. Such batteries are used in top-class e-bikes, also in each JOBOBIKE electric bicycle.

Battery Voltage And Capacity

At JOBOBIKE, depending on the bike model, we use batteries with different capacities. The maximum range of our e-bikes varies depending on the model and ranges from 60 km to 120 km. Some models are available with two different batteries to choose from. But just because two bike models have batteries with exactly the same batteries, it doesn’t always mean that their range will be the same.

Bicycle Model

Each bike is different from each other in many ways. The actual range of the e-bike is affected by its weight, thickness and tread of the tires as well as the location of the motor and its power. This is why two models with the same batteries may have different actual ranges.

Rider’s Weight

The maximum range of an e-bike is calculated for a rider weighing 60-70 kg. It is obvious that a person weighing more will travel fewer kilometers on a fully charged battery than a cyclist with a low weight.

Support Level

JOBOBIKE electric bikes have several levels of pedaling assistance. The vast majority of our e-bikes have five. In the JOBOBIKE VIVA bike, we can choose between three levels of support. The maximum range of a given model is given with the assumption that the entire route will be covered on the first level of assistance.

Landform

An important factor affecting the rate at which the battery of our e-bike drains power is the terrain on which we are riding. When driving continuously at a steady pace on asphalt, the battery charge level will drop less than when driving uphill or on rough forest roads.

Driving Style

How you use the pedal assist also affects the range of your e-bike. In order to achieve maximum range, it is recommended to start on the first level of assistance and to keep pedaling evenly throughout the ride.

Wind

The wind is one of the factors beyond your control, which can have a big impact on how far you can travel on one battery charge. When driving against a strong wind, the battery will lose its power faster. However, you will cover a much longer distance when the strong wind will additionally push you forward.

Air Temperature

E-bike battery performance may vary depending on the air temperature. You will get the best results when riding at about 20 degrees Celsius.

As you can see, the range of an electric bike is really affected by many factors, which is why it is impossible to give an unambiguous answer to the question about the real range of an e-bike. The maximum range we provide for each JOBOBIKE model is achievable by following the few rules mentioned above and appropriate weather conditions.
