How come a white kid from Kansas City has become

the best known rapper in the world starting from nothing

and eventually rise to a billionaire, Eminem on the

past seven years has been in the public eye everywhere

you look. He has essentially gone into the business of a black man and

reached the top in the course of a few years, but how?

On October 17, 1972, Marshall Bruce Mathers III was born in St.

Joseph, MO by his 15 year old mother Debbie. Six months later

his father was gone and this began Marshall’s fight and

his mother; one that was just the beginning. During the

In the course of his childhood, Marshall and his mother moved to numerous

times in different houses from Kansas City to Detroit. Tea

the maximum time spent in a house was only 3 months, which caused

Marshall to attend many different schools, making it difficult

cope with different environments and make friends. each new

school he attended was bullied because he was the new kid. This

it was something that could not change since it was never parked

in a school for a long period of time. At the age of 12 he and

his mother eventually settled in a house in Detroit. He would do

later use bullying to his advantage to get him to come back

to all his thugs through songs.

At the age of 4 Marshall was already beginning to rap and put

because he felt that school was not for him.

When he turned 17 he came up with the name M&M for

combining the first letters of your first and last name, which

it was later changed to Eminem. Now that he didn’t have school like

a distraction, he focused solely on rapping with the aim of

reaching the top. He faced a constant struggle on the way to

stardom as he was continually rejected by most rappers because

of his race, despite his true talent. This made the anger grow inside

the one he uses in his music today. Knowing that he was not

it was going to be easy and he would have to work, Marshall forced

himself on radio shows and freestyle battles to demonstrate

everyone wrong Over time he got a first album titled

“Infinite”, but it only sold 1,000 copies. it was not until 1997

that Marshall would make a name for himself.

In 1997 he was married with a son trying to support his family.

with very little cash to do so. he went to rap

Los Angeles Olympics in hopes of winning the $1,500 cash prize

for first place, but was instead seen by some sponsors of

interscope. Furious at being placed second, he later found

about the sponsors and gave them a copy of “Infinity”

tape, which was then sent to Dr. Dre. dre was extremely

impressed with Eminem’s talent and contacted him,

where the two recorded their second album; The Slim Shady LP.

This album set the tone for his rap style as he faded

on everyone who had bullied him throughout his life. He was a

different style than anyone had ever heard, which led him to

stardom.

Eminem is by far the most popular rapper who is seen the most on

It’s hard to ignore all that he’s accomplished. From

where it did and getting to where it is now, is

remarkable what he has done not only for himself, but for rap

world too. While it’s hard for most to like it, there are

there are not many who at least do not respect him for what he has

achieved as of now, and what you can do in the future to come.
