Guys, if you are thinking of spending your most memorable vacation on an island of your dreams, then come to Sri Lanka. Here’s a guide to the places you should visit for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Info: This tour will take you around the island and recommend places you can visit while you spend your vacation here. It is based on my experience.
1) Landing at Katunayake International Airport.
2) Hire a taxi from the arrival hall and head to NEGOMBO, where the sun shines and the ocean is full of activities and you can get the best natural tan.
3) When you are done, go to ANURADHAPURA. The city of heritage and culture. It is where the ancient kingdoms were formed and the rulers of the country lived. It is the longest trip you are going to do on this vacation. Time on the road 4 hours.
But to make the trip a bit more interesting, we’ll visit a world wonder along the way. Stop at SIGIRIYA in DAMBULLA where you will witness some of the best architecture and engineering of ancient Sri Lanka.
4) Next, we are going to visit the hilly capital of Sri Lanka, KANDY. It’s about 3 hours on the road, but the trip is worth it. There you will experience a different climate than in the two previous destinations, since the ambient temperature is around 20-22 °C. It is the kingdom of the last king of Sri Lanka and home to the Sacred Temple of the Tooth. I suggest you visit Kandy in August as that is the month when the Kandy Perahera will take place.
5) To freshen you up a bit, we will take our further inland trip to NUWARA ELIYA, the little England of Sri Lanka. It is where the flowers bloom and many activities take place from April to August. Room temperature is around 10-15C or may be lower. Watch horse races, take a boat ride on the lake, play golf or just enjoy walking in HAGGALA PARK.
I also suggest you make a stop along the way to look at the beautiful waterfalls and sample the original tea at the tea factories.
6) Now we are going to do a little safari, observing the wildlife of Sri Lanka, including many rare animals in YALA NATIONAL PARK. Time on the way from Nuwara Eliya around 4 hours. But the thrill and experience of wild animals in their natural habitat will take your breath away.
7) Now back to the beach and the warm sunny weather. We are going to visit GALLE and HIKKADUWA, the southern capitals of the island, where you will enjoy time on the beach and also the opportunity to snorkel in the coral regions.
8) Finally your return to COLOMBO the commercial capital of the country. It is where there is an active nightlife and also many places to enjoy family outings such as dinners, movies, etc. Where to stay??
