Valentine’s Day Ideas for Singles

Maybe your partner is abroad in the military. Perhaps you have suffered a recent divorce. Whatever the reason, you may find yourself lonely this Valentine’s Day. Does this mean you should stay at home feeling sorry for yourself? I do not think so. Here are some ideas for people who find themselves alone this year.

1. Go out yourself.

Who says you have to date a member of the opposite sex? I don’t see anything wrong with dressing well to go out with the person you should have the most fun with, you. So put on your best dress or suit and enjoy a night on the town all by yourself. At least you won’t spend the whole night worrying about whether or not you have salad on your teeth.

2. Hang out with your other single friends.

I’m sure you have other friends who are in the same situation you are in. Why not call one of your friends you haven’t seen in a while and go out with him or her? I’m sure your friend will appreciate your thinking of him or her.

3. Volunteer at a non-profit organization.

Sometimes the best way to stop feeling sorry for yourself is to help someone less fortunate. I’m sure there are many non-profit organizations in your area that would LOVE to have you volunteer that day. Simply type nonprofit organization or volunteer opportunity into your search engine to find an opportunity near you.

4. Offer to babysit.

I can’t think of a better way to help a young family with children than to offer them babysitting so they can enjoy their evening. I mean, you weren’t going to do anything but stay home and wallow in self-pity, anyway. This way they may owe you one.

5. Send yourself flowers and candy.

Just go to one of the online flower shops and order a bouquet of flowers and sweets for yourself. If you could have sent them to your office at work that would be even better. You could even have the card with the address “From your secret admirer.” You might act all surprised and wonder who in the world could have done such a great thing.

6. Adopt a soldier and send him a Valentine.

There are several sites online that have resources to help American soldiers. http://www.noanie.com is an example of one of these types of sites. I am not affiliated with this website at all, I just wanted to include it here so you can find an address to send your valentines to.

Being alone on Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be the end of the world. If you’re creative, you can find ways to make this day bearable, maybe even a memorable experience.
