Golf in Metro Atlanta’s DeKalb County

DeKalb County, Georgia, on the east side of the Atlanta metropolitan area, has several of the best golf courses in the metropolitan area. Two of the best options are within the popular Stone Mountain Park. Another good option is a semi-private course located in Tucker, Georgia. DeKalb County has two municipal courses that are very popular with golfers.

Stone Mountain Golf Club is located within Stone Mountain Park, one of Atlanta’s most popular family attractions. There are two 18-hole championship courses, Stonemont and Lakemont. The Stonemont course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. It is a classic and challenging course that Golf Digest has consistently rated four stars. The course is gently rolling with Bermuda fairways and Bentgrass greens. The course plays par 70/71 over 6,863 yards. The Lakemont course, par 71 and 6,444 yards, is a little less demanding. Golfers will enjoy beautiful views of scenic Stone Mountain Lake and the Confederate memorial carvings on the mountain. Water comes into play on many of the holes. Other facilities at Stone Mountain Golf Club include a clubhouse with a full service restaurant and a fully stocked pro shop. Seasonal green fees (March-November) are $45 on weekdays and $59 on weekends. Off season rates (December, January and February) are $39 on weekdays and $49 on weekends. Afternoon rates are lower. Stone Mountain Park charges a $10 parking fee.

Heritage Golf Links, formerly Celebrity Golf Club International, is a semi-private golf club located at 4445 Britt Road in Tucker, Georgia. The club has 27 holes of golf and a floodlit driving range. The course layout is undulating, with many holes bordering a large lake. The greens are Bentgrass. Other amenities include a clubhouse, snack bar, and pro shop. Green fees are $55 Monday through Thursday from March through November. Friday, Saturday and Sunday rates are $65. Rates for December through February are $45 Monday through Thursday and $55 on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Nine hole rates are available.

The DeKalb County Department of Parks and Recreation owns two public golf courses. Each course has Bentgrass greens and full service practice facilities with driving range, putting green and practice bunker. Other amenities include a full-service clubhouse with snack bar, pro shop, lockers, and showers. Both courses allow walking. Mystery Valley Golf Club is located at 6094 Shadowrock Drive in Lithonia, Georgia. This popular course near Stone Mountain has hosted some pretty big state tournaments. The 18-hole par 72 course is rolling smoothly and plays for 6,700 yards. Green fees are $38 on weekdays and $45 on weekends and holidays. Carts are $13. There are discounts available for juniors and seniors. Sugar Creek Golf Club is located at 2706 Bouldercrest Road. The 18-hole par 71 course plays 6,318 yards. Green fees are $23 on weekdays and $29 on weekends and holidays. Carts are $13. Sugar Creek also has a great tennis court.
