Bastion Review, The Children’s Story

If you enjoy indie games, I guess you do it because you have no reason not to. Bastion it is one of the best examples of that. Please ignore this long time lag between the game’s release and my review, I always do; I find an old game and play it, then I decide to write an article about it, I don’t care about the release date.

the history

Bastion is a story of survivors of a calamity. Bastion is a place as a meeting point after the calamity. As an experienced soldier, The Kid, I mean that we players try to find and save all the other survivors among monsters in different parts of the map. We try to build our new world and save other survivors.

Bastion

Bastion is a 2D isometric action rpg play. The game does not omit to teach us the basics, which include carrying only 2 weapons at a time, rolling, characteristics of the weapons and more. I must admit that monster fights are a bit of a disappointment for an action RPG. I’m used to using a lot of skills together in action RPGs, I love combining skills, but unfortunately in Bastion we can choose and use only 1 spell at a time and we have to have the required item to be able to use that skill. Left click to use our primary weapon, right click for our secondary weapon, and only 1 spell to use … A bit boring compared to many other action RPGs on the market. Even the boss fights are not very exciting, we just have to press the right and left click at the right moment while protecting ourselves, that’s it.

I almost forgot to mention the passive skill system, the distillery. We choose one of the passive skills available at each level. I must say that unlike weapons, passive abilities are not balanced. There is no clear advantage between weapons; the weapons are roughly the same with all their advantages and disadvantages. But when it comes to passive abilities, there are a few that no one would pick.

I can’t count too many things that they do Bastion very different from games of the same genre, but the idea of the narrator is great. Speak according to history and our movements. When we break too many objects, for example, he says, “The child only gets mad for a little while.” The narrator also helps us with the story, tells us the story of our character, “The Kid.” This is not all, it helps us in almost everything, from weapons to abilities, from maps to monsters … etc.

In the game, there is something else that will surely attract your attention; music. I’m not very interested in music and sound and was too lazy to look it up, but I’m sure you’ll love Bastion’s music. You may lower the sound effects to hear the music well.

The good thing is that there is a function that keeps us busy even after completing the story. We can try survival mode. Of course, not having a survival mode would be a shame for such a game. After completing the story mode, players must continue playing without repeating the story mode over and over again. Survival mode comes to our aid at this point.
